Morgan Laiz

Morgan Laiz is a Spanish-born speculative fiction author with a degree in Hispanic Studies and research experience in narratology. He has published two novels under a pseudonym and has been actively involved in genre festivals, book fairs, and conventions, appearing as a presenter as well as organizing and moderating literary events.

Morgan’s style is defined by a fluid narrative focused on the evolution of complex, deeply human characters, with a strong critique of inequality. Morgan’s novels invite readers to reflect on the fear of abandonment and the struggle to stay true to oneself in a society that continually rejects those who don’t fit in.

"Nobody’s really sure when everything went to hell.
What we do know is that the bugs showed up. Ugly, huge, ravenous bugs…"

Visions Beyond the Veil

Would you take the chance to be anything but normal? Rafael Keller has had schizophrenia for as long as he can remember, and he sees monsters. After another failed attempt at life outside the psychiatric hospital, he meets a doctor who suggests approaching his condition from a new angle: accept the possibility that he isn’t crazy. From then on, Raf joins the Veil Society and discovers a whole range of legendary creatures that turns his life into a whirlwind of stress, footraces, and explosions.

The loneliness of not fitting into either world drives him to team up with his worst enemy: a heavy-metal-loving elf assigned to accompany him during his training at the Veil Protection Agency.

The Cryptids’ Pact

Rafael Keller once thought he was crazy, but he was wrong. His new job at the Veil Protection Agency has gotten him out of the psychiatric hospital and let him start building a future. When a body turns up floating in the A Coruña estuary, Raf is assigned to the investigation team alongside his partner Binkas, an insolent biker elf.

What, or who, is hiding beneath the water, and why does it only kill humans?

Targeted by a radical faction of cryptids that wants him dead, Raf follows the monster’s trail and must confront his own origins.
