Morgan Laiz probes the limits of the human mind through absorbing, conflicted, and emotionally rich characters who collide with their own identities in an unjust society. He combines a nimble prose style with wit, humor, and moral dilemmas. Marked by a strong critique of social inequality, these stories invite readers to reflect on the fear of abandonment and the struggle to stay true to oneself when society rejects those who diverge.
A philologist and scalpel-precise storyteller, Morgan has published two novels under the pen name M. E. Laiz: Visiones tras el Velo and El pacto de los críptidos, where Iberian mythology is explored through a narrative approach that blends psychological thriller with crime fiction. These books follow Rafael Keller, a young man with schizophrenia who discovers that the monsters from his delusions are real and steps into a world populated by legendary creatures. Both novels have been praised by readers and critics for their realistic, complex treatment.
Influenced by authors such as King, K. Le Guin, Sanderson, Scalzi, and Weir, Morgan has found a distinctive voice in speculative, character-driven fiction to tackle deep dilemmas about humanity. These works are written for readers who seek an emotional connection that lingers beyond the last page. THE METHOD
Writing and Narratology
The explorer of other realities summons alien, complex, and profound characters, whose personalities unfold according to the circumstances they are given. Like a capricious god, the writer shapes those souls, designing the journey that will let them love, suffer, and evolve psychologically. In this way, each character gains virtues and flaws, becomes human, and turns into a mirror for the reader.
The novel as a genre becomes the framework that allows these creations to face their own dilemmas in a world that provokes estrangement even as it echoes reality. The reader is pulled out of their comfort zone and stripped of everyday norms, confronted with a truth not their own; a worldview that is at once different from, and identical to, their own.
